Description:
Welcoming newcomer English Learners (ELs) into your classroom comes with both opportunities and challenges. This asynchronous, one-hour-per-week virtual workshop is designed to equip educators with the foundational knowledge, culturally responsive practices, and instructional strategies needed to support newcomer EL students effectively.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe the key characteristics and needs of newcomer English Learners, including language development stages and cultural adjustment factors.
- Participants will be able to design and implement scaffolded instructional strategies that promote language development and content access for newcomer English Learners across subject areas.
This workshop is offered at no additional cost to those districts participating in CESA 10’s Title III Services, including: Altoona, Augusta, Bloomer, Bruce, Cadott, Chippewa Falls, Cornell, Eleva-Strum, Fall Creek, Flambeau, Gilman, Gilmanton, Granton, Greenwood, Ladysmith, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Medford, Mondovi, Neillsville, New Auburn, Osseo-Fairchild, Owen-Withee, Spencer, Stanley-Boyd, and Thorp.
This workshop is offered at $170/person to those districts participating in CESA 10's School Improvement Consortium (LS1A) Services, including: Abbotsford, Colby, and Eau Claire.
For all other participants, the cost is $255/person.
